Week 5 Roundup - Expos & Jackets Separate From the Pack

As much as last week may have been about the offense, this week showed the league still on plenty of defense and pitching on display as well as two front running teams have emerged in the early going. This week we saw a no hitter into the 5th and a scoreless game into the 7th as well as a 30th consecutive home win by the BYJ.  

Here are this weeks highlights

 

Niagara Falls Expos 15 – Merritton Alliance 3

Veteran Jason Baldinelli gave the Expos a solid 5 inning start while the offense pounded out 20 hits to get on the Alliance pitching early and often in this one. Expos continue their hot start.

Welland Pioneers 2 – Thorold Anchors 10

A vintage start by Anchors Kyle D’Angela, who carried a no hitter into the 5th, was enough to limit the Pioneers on the evening. This game was much closer for the majority of the game before the Anchors broke it open late with a 5 run 5th inning.

Thorold Anchors 8 – Fort Erie Cannons 9

Cannons get out to a 7-2 lead mid way through the game before the Anchors begin to mount a comeback and tie the game in the top of the 7th. This time however, its rookie Tobey Drennan who walks off the Anchors with a 2 out RBI single in the bottom of the 7th to regain the lead and the win for the Cannons.

Beamsville Yellow Jackets 8  – St. Catharines Cobras 5

In the battle of the last remaining unbeatens it was the defending champs who came out with the victory. Behind a solid start by Jordan Young, the BYJ got out to a 5-0 lead early and never looked back. The Cobras did send the winning run to the plate, but Tyler Wood closed the door in the 7th.

Welland Pioneers 3 – Beamsville Yellow Jackets 12

Beamsville records their 30th consecutive home victory, buoyed by a 6 run 4th inning. Their last home loss was June 9, 2023.

St. Catharines Cobras 0 – Niagara Falls Expos 1

In an early favourite for game of the year, the Expos defeat the Cobras in a pitching duel. Veteran Matt Skubel took the complete game loss while rookie CJ Bain matched 0’s with him, with 5 shutout innings. Mitch Greco’s ROE is the source of the only run in this one.
