After a long offseason, the 2025 NDBA Senior league finally got underway this week with a quartet of exciting games to kick us off in Week 1.

 

Niagara Falls Expos 4 – Welland Pioneers 5

The league began on Monday with an exciting game that ended with the year’s first walk off victory. The Pioneers plated 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to take the opening game of the season.

Fort Erie Cannons 4 – St. Catharines Cobras 5

The Cobras win their home opener over the Fort Erie Cannons. Cobras get out to a 5-1 leads before the Cannons comeback is stopped short with the tying run on 3rd base to end the game.

Thorold Anchors 12 – Merritton Alliance 5

The Anchors become the first road team to win in 2025 with a big win over the Alliance. Anchors got out to a 4-0 lead only to see the Alliance tie the game up after 5. Anchors would score 4 runs in each of the last two innings to secure the win.

St. Catharines Cobras 13 – Welland Pioneers 11

Cobras continue their hot start with their second victory in a row over the Pioneers. Cobras jumped out to a big lead thanks to an 8 run 3rd innings and led 12-3 after 3 innings. The Pioneers scratched and clawed back but ultimately the comeback comes up just short in this one as Matt Skubel comes on to close the game for the 7th inning save.

The scheduled tilt between Niagara Falls and Beamsville was rained out on Friday evening. At the conclusion of Week 1, the Cobras have taken over first place in the standings with an unblemished 2-0 start. Will they be able to hang on at this time next week? Time will tell as we have another 5 league games scheduled in Week 2.
