After a 12-8 victory on the road over the Fort Erie Cannons on Wednesday night, the Expos were looking to go back home for a perfect week against the Merritton Alliance. It was a great environment with great weather and a great crowd on hand at Oakes Park in Niagara Falls with the Expos sending Jason Baldinelli to the mound against Jacob Reynen of the Merritton Alliance. The stage was set for another exciting and competitive Friday night of baseball in the Falls.
Then the Expos bats ran into Jacob Reynen who kept them at bay throughout most of the night.
The Alliance wasted no time in getting themselves on the board in the first inning by scoring two quick runs off of hits from Adam Hope, Dave Davidson and driven in by Ben Collins. These were exacerbated by two throwing errors from the Expos that were caused by the bright setting sun on the field. And from that point until the 5th inning, that was all the offence that was needed during the game as Jacob Reynen was pitching a no-hitter through 5 innings until singles from Jackson Mackesey and Serge Gervais prompted the Expos only run off an RBI from TC Murray.
Not to be outdone on the mound for the Expos was Jason Baldinelli who had a strong outing of his own and kept the Alliance offensive output at bay for 5 innings with a total of 7 strikeouts on the night giving up 7 hits and 6 runs, until the 6th inning when the Alliance broke away for 4 runs in the 6th off of hits from Ethan Wells, Steve Maurice, Dylan Rush and Ben Collins. While Jacob Reynen pitched a gem for the Alliance throwing 5 innings giving up 2 hits, striking out 7 and giving up one lone run.
Both teams are back at it tomorrow with the Expos back at home to play the first place Beamsville Yellow Jackets, while the Alliance are back at home at George Taylor Field in St.Catharines to play the Thorold Anchors.
